Selections of Work
Kindle Dot Braille Translator

A translation tool that receives typed text and returns the American Braille equivalent.

A software prototype created in Game Maker 8.1, for a joint project with David Neiman, Erik Nunez, and Nick Mikesell for a project design simulation course. The project's full scope involved designing a complete professional pitch as though to a company or board of investors. This prototype was to be the underlying software of a fictional product in the Amazon Kindle® line of e-readers that could take text from Amazon's pre-existing library of books, internally translate it to Braille, and display it on the device's surface to be read.

The GML code demonstrates a massive switch-case chain that not only checks for each character in the translation, but also contractions and multi-character abbreviations that are present in Braille but not necessarily present in the input langauge.

Cultivate
A gardener is forced to fight the futile advances of civilization and pollution.

A short survival strategy game created in Game Maker 8.1.

The GML code demonstrates use of the ds_grid Game Maker data structure. It also implements a currency and trading system: both seeds and an amount of water need to be used to place a new plant, and supplies are limited. The game was expanded from an inital project designed in one week for a rapid prototyping class.

Music used is "Passage into Midnight" by Omar Akram. Purchase song on Amazon or iTunes.

LaunchEd
Ed and his interplanetary delivery service will get your packages to your planet faster than the competitors! Our secret? We have a patented orbital launch process that gets us there faster than anybody!

A delivery game created in Game Maker 8.1, designed in one week for a rapid prototyping class.

The GML code demonstrates both a two-dimensional thruster-based motion mechanic and an angular launching mechanic that was implemented with trigonometric functions.

To play, download and run the EXE.
ConCERNs
The CERN laboratory is having a very bad day, and only one person can save everything!

A small puzzle game demonstrated in Game Maker 8.1, designed in one week for a rapid prototyping class.

Prototype avatar modified from an image of Gordon Freeman from Valve's Half-Life series. Music used is "Frigate Orpheon Escape" by Kenji Yamamoto and Kouichi Kyuma, from the Metroid Prime score. Purchase CD on Amazon.

To play, download and run the EXE.

Controls: Arrow keys to move. Space bar to interact with objects.
Space Shooter
A space shooter concept that transitions from launching off of a planet to destroying enemies in the coldness of a vacuum.

A design created in Adobe Flash CS3 and ActionScript 2.0, expanded from an exercise in Macromedia® FlashTM Professional 8 Game Development by Glen Rhodes for Charles River Media Game Development Series.

A work in progress. Game currently ends at an incomplete boss fight (reachable by obtaining a score of 50) and must be manually closed at that point. Music used is three simple tracks created in Garage Band, created for the purpose of testing event-based seamless transitions between tracks in Adobe Flash.

Click to play the Flash game in-browser. (Adobe Flash Player install required to run.)
Snowy Temple

A temple to an angry god, located in the midst of a lone mountain. Don't stand in the middle of the altar!

A collaborative project with Sina Sadr using Unreal Development Kit. My contributions were the architectural planning work, the original BSP structuring, the modeling of the mountain and snow landscape, the sound effects (work in Audacity, utilizing source sounds from FreeSound.org) and the particle system snowstorm.
Russian Submarine
A two-minute compilation of sound effects that chronicles the fateful journey of a Russian submarine.

A soundscape created with Pro Tools and Audacity, utilizing source sounds from FreeSound.org.

Download and listen to the WAV file.
